Powell, Flynn Meet With Trump to Discuss Military Deployment to Oversee Possible Election Rerun, Reports Say

Sidney Powell and former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn reportedly met with President Trump in the oval office on Friday, New York Times reports.

The report said Powell and Flynn suggested on deploying the military to oversee a potential rerun of the 2020 elections in battle ground states. Trump’s lead counsel Rudy Giuliani was also said to have participated through a phone call.

Here’s more from the NY Times:

Most of his advisers opposed the idea, two of the people briefed on the discussion said, including Rudolph W. Giuliani, the president’s personal lawyer, who in recent days sought to have the Department of Homeland Security join the campaign’s efforts to overturn Mr. Trump’s loss in the election.

Mr. Giuliani joined the discussion by phone, while Ms. Powell was at the White House for a meeting that became raucous at times, according to one of the people briefed on what took place. Other administration officials drifted in and out of the meeting, two of the people briefed said, and the White House counsel, Pat A. Cipollone, pushed back on the ideas being proposed.

Ms. Powell accused other Trump advisers of being quitters, according to the people briefed.

It was unclear if Mr. Trump will move ahead with such a plan.

Maggie Haberman, the news outlet’s White House correspondent, provided more context on Twitter.

“The meeting got raucous, with various administration members drifting in and out and different people arguing. Powell told others they were quitters, people people briefed on the meeting,” the tweet reads.

“The fact of the meeting – and Giuliani hope of seizing the voting machines – has alarmed some of the president’s advisers, who see his desire to take his refusal to accept the election results as in a dangerous new place,” Haberman added.

She continued, saying that some people in the meeting objected to such suggestions, citing as unconstitutional. “Meadows and Cipollone strenuously and repeatedly objected to these suggestions, saying there was no constitutional basis, according to the people briefed.”

“One person floated an executive order to seize the voting machines. That was also shot down by Cipollone, per the people briefed.”

Haberman gave the latest update on her earlier posts shortly after. Read her tweets below:

“Adding to the story but two people briefed said Flynn was there as well for this meeting. During the meeting, the president asked about Flynn’s suggestion of deploying the military, those briefed said. That was also shot down.”

“MORE – POTUS asked about possibility of Powell being given security clearances to pursue her theories, per people briefed on the meeting. In the president’s mind, “special counsel” is what DoJ made happen with Mueller, but what was being discussed was Powell working inside the White House – and Trump came very close to hiring her, per multiple people briefed.”

“Ms. Powell’s ideas were shot down by every other Trump adviser present, all of whom repeatedly pointed out that she had yet to back up her claims with proof. “At one point, one person briefed on the meeting said, she produced several affidavits, but upon inspection they were all signed by a man she has previously used as an expert witness, whose credentials have been called into question.”
