Along with the state of Washington, Michigan will be undergoing a strict lockdown during Thanksgiving, including restaurant dine-in, public events at concert halls, casinos, movie theaters, skating rinks, and other venues starting on Wednesday until December 8th. Both states are governed by Democrats.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer also banned in-person high school and college classes, and home gatherings will only be limited to 10 people from not more than two households. She said the cold weather drives people indoors, where the coronavirus easily spreads.
Whitmer pointed out that deaths could increase into 1,000 per week without aggressive actions in the state.
“We are in the worst moment of this pandemic to date,” she told during a news conference. “The situation has never been more dire. We are at the precipice and we need to take some action.
Following her announcement, White House coronavirus adviser Scott Atlas said people from Michigan should “rise up.”
The only way this stops is if people rise up. You get what you accept. #FreedomMatters #StepUp https://t.co/8QKBszgKTM

Twitter users were also quick to criticize Whitmer. Take a look at what they’re saying:
This isn’t science, at all. And even just speaking from statistical trends in countries which shut down more effectively than the US… yes they absolutely fucking do.

The effects of economic damage and crushed livelihoods from lockdowns will be significantly worse than the virus.
