Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Complains After Pres. Trump Calls Her AOC; Prefers “Congresswoman”

New York representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who is also called AOC, ranted after President Trump referred to her as “AOC” during Thursday’s final debate. The young congresswoman clearly wasn’t happy and tweeted about it, arguing it was a “disrespect to women” calling them with their first names or nicknames, while calling men of stature with their last names.

“I wonder if Republicans understand how much they advertise their disrespect of women in debates when they consistently call women members of Congress by nicknames or first names while using titles & last names when referring to men of = stature. Women notice. It conveys a lot,” she wrote.

Later on, she clarified her first tweet telling her followers they can call her AOC, but not colleagues in the government. She added she should be called “representative” or “congresswoman” by peers who don’t know her, suggesting Trump should have addressed her as such because they’re not acquainted, and wrote “Basic Respect 101.”

She said: “AOC is a name given to me by community & the people. Y’all can call me AOC. Government colleagues referring to each other in a public or professional context (aka who don’t know me like that) should refer to their peers as “Congresswoman,” “Representative,”etc. Basic respect 101.”

“His plan is an economic disaster,” President Trump said at one point in the debate. “If you look at what he wants to do, you know who developed it? AOC plus three. They know nothing about the climate. I mean she’s got a good line of stuff but she knows nothing about the climate. And they are all hopping through hoops for AOC plus three.”

Trump was referring to the other three members of “The Squad” including Representatives Ilhan Omar from Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley from Massachusetts, and Rashida Tlaib from Michigan.

The 31-year-old politician has another Twitter account “maintained by federal staff to share services and legislation relevant to constituents of NY-14” that goes with the username “@RepAOC.”

Ocasio-Cortez also tweeted on Friday about a “AOCplusme” shirt.
